Billboards
Only in Utah would you find a billboard that says "Your Body is a Temple. Hydrate it." It was advertising vitamin water and can be seen off of the freeway driving to Salt Lake. I think it is interesting how companies target groups that are going to see their product. If they were to have put that slogan up on a billboard in LA, I don't think people would remember it very much because they wouldn't get it. Billboards seem like media to me because they can be used for advertisement, which is media.
The content on the billboard was very good because it was clean and humorous at the same time. I wonder if the Church had anything to say about it because it touches on religion, and makes it seem like we sponsor the company. I have always remembered this billboard more than anything mainly because it just seemed ridiculously funny to see that off of the freeway. What other funny billboards have you seen?

Haha that is great! I am like, a little surprised, but at the same time, not really. It's Utah. I am from Kentucky and things like that (especially from a major, non-religious based company) were rare. That is really interesting that they are taking that type of approach to their advertising!
ReplyDeleteI really want to go find that billboard and take a picture of it now!
I totally picked to read this blog to see if this is what you had written about. I drive by this billboard all the time! I thought it was clever. You are right. People remember it. I liked the message though. I feel like there is a sleuth of billboards for plastic surgery and lipo-suction in Utah County. There must be a targeted audience there as well;)
ReplyDeleteAnother only in Utah billboard is the one advertising a law firm and states "because your home teacher is not a lawyer." I moved here from California 18 months ago and when I saw that I started laughing. If that sign was anywhere else in the country it would not make sense. :)
